Event Overview

By Scott Long
After hosting a successful PPC Aruba satellite series, Pensacola Greyhound Track & Poker will use the same formula for its Ante Up Poker Tour event Nov. 19-23 to put one player on the cover of Ante Up Magazine.

"The players like the multiple Day 1 structure because it gives them several chances to accumulate a large chip stack," said Les Davidson, poker room manager at Pensacola Greyhound Track & Poker in the Florida Panhandle. "Also, if you are running bad one day, you can erase that day out of your mind and start fresh the next day."

Pensacola’s AUPT event is a single tournament, but with four flights and a bankroll-friendly $250 buy-in. Players advancing in more than one flight will advance their largest chip stack. In addition to cash, the champion of the $50,000 guaranteed tournament gets a seat in the $1,650 buy-in 2015 Ante Up World Championship Main Event, a personalized tour champion’s jacket and will appear on the cover of the January issue of Ante Up Magazine.

"The possibility of being on the cover of Ante Up has caused a big stir in the room," Davidson said. "We have a lot of hams that would almost give up the prize money to be on the cover. We also have a lot of players that would consider it a thrill of a lifetime. It is going to be very exciting for the winner."

When not playing the tournament, players have a wide selection of cash game options in no-limit and limit formats, as well as pot-limit Omaha or Big O, with plenty of jackpot promotions. Satellites will begin Nov. 1 and run through Day 1C. The 20-table Pensacola Greyhound Track & Poker has a restaurant and simulcasting on site, and is just minutes away from the sugar-white beaches of Pensacola and Naval Air Station Pensacola, where the famous Blue Angels train. Pensacola also offers great nightlife and outlet shopping is nearby.

"Our $50,000 tournaments attract a lot of players from nearby regions," Davidson said of the surrounding region that includes Biloxi, Miss. "It gives our local players the 'big tournament' feel. They enjoy testing their skills against players that they don't normally get to play against. Pensacola is a great melting pot for poker because of its location between so many poker rooms. If you think that you have seen everything, just come to Pensacola and we might change your mind."
