Event Overview

Pearl River Resort is building on its long relationship with the Ante Up Poker Tour by hosting two events again in 2018, the first, the Pearl River Spring Poker Classic, runs March 15-25.

“As always, this schedule features a $350 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed opener and an $810 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed main event,” said Paul Dutsch, the veteran Mississippi tournament director who has run the past several AUPT events at the resort in Choctaw, Miss. “Other highlights of the schedule include a $25,000 guaranteed $400-buy-in ‘Mini Main,’ a $300 buy-in seniors event and a Double Deep Monster Stack with a 40K starting stack.”

Dutsch evaluates each Pearl River AUPT series after it ends and uses feedback from players to make the next series better.

“We look at what has been popular with the players previously,” he said. “Our overall philosophy can be summed up in one word: value. It doesn’t matter whether you are talking about the seat-added megas, the $810 buy-in main event, the Double Deep Monster Stack with its amazing structure, the $350 buy-in Event 1, tableside food service in the tournaments or the amazing hotel rates. Value for today’s players exists at Pearl River like nowhere else.”

The series maximizes player availability on weekends to offer large guarantees, with the opening weekend sporting a $100K guarantee and a $25K guarantee, and the final weekend featuring the $100K guarantee main event, the winner of which gets on the cover of the May issue of Ante Up, an entry into the main event of the 2018 Ante Up World Championship and a personalized tour champion’s jacket.

Satellites always have been a cornerstone of the value Pearl River offers players, with more than 75 players satelliting into last year’s main event and more than 50 winning their way into the opening event. This series features two new, three-seat-added mega-satellites for Event 3, the Mini Main.

“Seat-added megas have been a part of the value-for-the-player formula at Pearl River from the beginning of these regional tournaments,” Dutsch said. “It all comes back to that one word: value. Most mega-satellites are designed for roughly one in every eight players to win a seat. In the four-seat-added main-event megas, that number is closer to one in six players winning a seat. You can’t find a much better value that that.”

Cash-game action is heavy during AUPT series, with limit and no-limit games available daily and big pot-limit Omaha games usually breaking out on weekends.

The Pearl River Poker Open plays out in the upscale Time Out Lounge, which features more than a dozen TVs so players don’t miss any of the exciting college basketball action while playing in a comfortable and private area. Owned and operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, the two casino-resorts at Pearl River together offer more than 1,000 hotel rooms, 2,400 slot machines, 59 table games and a 14-table poker room, as well as the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, Geyser Falls Water Theme Park and numerous dining and entertainment options.

“With these guarantees, seat-added megas, tableside food service for tournament players and amazing hotel rates, it will be very difficult to find more value during a tournament series,” Dutsch said. “We look forward to seeing you there.”
