Event Overview

A new, stylish venue awaits players for the next Ante Up Poker Tour series at Pearl River Resort in October.

With sports wagering now legal in Mississippi, the Pearl River Resort in Choctaw, Miss., is operating its sportsbook in Timeout Lounge, which has hosted several Ante Up Poker Tour series over the past few years.

“The biggest change this year for the Pearl River Poker Open is a relocation to the luxurious Center Bar at the Golden Moon Resort,” said Paul Dutsch, the popular Southern tournament director who will lead the event again with his excellent crew. “This new venue is state-of-the-art with more televisions to enjoy all of the college and pro football action. You also will be able to take advantage of the new sportsbook to get action on all the games.”

Players can look forward to some additions and changes to the schedule for the series, which will run Oct. 25-Nov. 4.

“The $40K Double Deep Monster Stack has been moved to the first Monday of the series and there is a $20K Monster Stack on Nov. 1,” Dutsch said. “There is also a new ladies event on Nov. 1 and a new bounty tournament on Tuesday.”

But even with the changes, the hallmarks of AUPT series at Pearl River remain.

“As always, this schedule features a $340 buy-in $100K guaranteed opener and a $800 buy-in $100K guaranteed main event,” Dutsch said. “Other highlights of the schedule include a $260 buy-in seniors event on the first Sunday, a Double Deep Monster Stack with a 40k starting stack on Oct. 29 and a Monster Stack with a 20K starting stack on Nov 1.”

The winner of the main event not only will appear on the cover of the December issue of Ante Up, but will get a seat in next year’s $1,650 Ante Up World Championship Main Event and a hotel package at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in California. Last year’s Pearl River Poker Open champion, Michael Monaghan, turned that seat into a $107K payday in August and is expected to be in the field for this year’s PRPO.

Players will have plenty of chances to satellite into events.

“The Seat Added Megas are extremely popular,” Dutsch said. “Most mega-satellites are designed for roughly one in every eight players to win a seat. In the four-seat-added main-event megas, that number is closer to one in six players winning a seat. You can’t find a much better value that that.

“There are Seat Added Megas for Event 1 and the main event, giving you plenty of opportunities to turn a toothpick into a lumberyard,” Dutsch said. “During the last Pearl River Spring Poker Open, more than 75 players (got) into the main event (though satellites) and more than 50 playersinto Event 1. Whether you win your seat in a mega or buy in, you can’t discount the value of those extra buy-ins from the satellites.”

There will be plenty of cash-game action during the series as well, with $1-$3 and $2-$5 no-limit hold’em, $3-$6 limit, $2-$5 PLO, Big O and Omaha/8 often spread during the series, said poker room manager Denise Dahl. Promotions include $50-$150 Splash the Pot in limit games from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays, $100 high hands in NLHE noon-5 p.m., $100-$200 Weekend Warrior drawings five times every Sunday and Heart Seat drawings from 3-11 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Owned and operated by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, the two casino-resorts at Pearl River (Golden Moon and Silver Star) together offer more than 1,000 hotel rooms, 2,400 slot machines, 59 table games, a sportsbook and a 14-table poker room, as well as the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, Geyser Falls Water Theme Park and numerous dining and entertainment options.

“Our overall philosophy can be summed up in one word: value,” Dutsch said. “It doesn’t matter whether you are talking about the Seat Added Megas, the amazing structure of the Double Deepstack Monster Stack, tableside food service in the tournaments or the amazing hotel rates, value for today’s players exists at Pearl River like nowhere else. We look forward to seeing you there.”
