Second annual Holiday Charity Poker Classic is Dec. 2 in Daytona

November 20, 2012

After speaking with Rabbi David Kane, it’s easy to see not only does he have a passion for Texas Hold’em, but also for the five charities his organization supports. This year’s second annual Holiday Charity Classic at Daytona Beach Kennel Club will be Dec. 2 and will benefit the Service Animal Program at Disability Solutions, the Jerry Doliner Foodbank, Greyhound Pets of America, Veterans Family Fund and the Deepstack Charity Fund, for which Kane is co-chairman.

With more than $20,000 in prizes, door prizes and bounties, it’s clear why this event is making a second appearance. Here are just some of the prizes: First place is a $6,500 prize package from the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, including a $3,500 seat in the Borgata Winter Poker Open Main Event, airfare, hotel, food and cash. Second and third place each win an Ante Up Poker Cruise package for two for the Feb. 4 sailing out of Port Canaveral.

The top 10 percent of the field will cash or win prizes. The final-table players will win a seat in May’s Deepstack Charity Classic and the top 10 finishers will earn Ante Up Player of the Year points.

Advance entries are $150 and available at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club or online at HolidayCharityClassic.Com. If entries remain on the day of the tournament, they will be $175. For more information, call (386) 316-3138.

And if that was not enough, Ante Up senior strategy columnist Lee Childs will teach a training class the weekend of the event and host a $10,000 guarantee VIP tournament.

Kane said he has been playing “wild-card poker” for more than 36 years at home and with friends, but over the past six years found and fell in love with the “real” poker that Daytona Beach Kennel Club and its professional staff have been able to provide.
