On Chris' Ts7s hand:

The dealer was totally out of line. The dealer should let the player act and then tell them that the bet is $65. Stopping them in the middle implies they are making a mistake by calling. Bad, bad, bad.

If I were Chris I would absolutely not call the floor. I much prefer a friendly game where honest mistakes aren't unnecessarily penalized. It is better for everyone IMO if new players are comfortable and not constantly worried about making technical mistakes.

The call should absolutely stand if the floor is called. If the player moved his chips forward and clearly intended to call then they should be forced to put in the extra $15 or fold. Like I said, as a player I wouldn't try to get the rule enforced in this case but that has to be the rule to prevent angles.

I agree with Rant -- the dealer was totally out of line. It's up to the player to pay attention to the action and understand what s/he's about to do. I'm not sure if I would have asked for a ruling/floor call or not -- depends on the situation.

As for the riddle that stumped Vanessa Rousso for so long -- I have to admit to being surprised it was so hard for her. To me, that's a classic from grade school or maybe high school. I don't know if I was first or not (I suspect no), but I called in to the hotline with the answer as soon as I heard it (mind you, I was listening on my iPhone in the grocery store, so I paused it and called, and I'm sure anybody else in the produce section was wondering what the heck I was doing).

As for the Magic: The Gathering topic, I also played a few (well, 10-15) years ago. If I hadn't already been married and had a child during that time period, I would have seriously considered going to tournaments around the country. As it was, I just went to local ones and did fairly well. I do think there is an element of strategy and thinking that is common to that game and poker, but I don't see MTG as leading into Poker -- instead, I just see that people who would be interested in games of skill and strategy could easily be attracted to both.
